Vietnam, Cambodia Tackle Canal Project Tensions
Vietnam and Cambodia are navigating tensions over Cambodia's $1.7 billion Funan Techo Canal project, funded by China. While Cambodia wants to boost its economy and reduce dependence on Vietnamese seaports, Vietnam is raising concerns about water security and environmental impacts on the Mekong Delta. Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai is asking for close coordination with Cambodia and the Mekong River Commission to safeguard shared interests. The canal's potential military use by China also is also adding geopolitical anxiety.

Canada is leveraging its Indo-Pacific strategy to strengthen ties with Vietnam, focusing on the Mekong Delta, a critical region facing severe environmental challenges.
