Representatives from the Vietnamese and Lao governments met in Vientiane to discuss preparations for the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee for Bilateral Cooperation. The meeting focused on aligning development plans with the socio-economic needs of member countries and using innovation to improve competitiveness. Both sides agreed to create a stable legal corridor and have specific mechanisms for key security-defence projects. They also said that they would continue offering mutual support at international forums and promote ASEAN's role in sub-regional cooperation.

Chinese Enterprises Lead Lao Investments
Chinese enterprises and investors have invested more than US$15 billion in over 900 projects across Laos, especially energy, mining, infrastructure, services and agriculture. This updated figure was reported at a Lao-Chinese business meeting held in Hangzhou, China. The meeting was jointly organised by the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

China, Laos Plan Joint Medical Rescue Exercise
China and Laos will hold the "Peace Train 2024" joint humanitarian medical rescue exercise in Laos in mid-to-late November, 2024. This is the fifth event of the "Peace Train" joint exercise series held by Chinese and Lao militaries. The exercise is expected to consolidate the joint command and rescue capabilities of the two militaries in medical services, and further improve exchanges and cooperation between them. During the joint exercise, the Chinese military medics will carry out medical service for both Lao military members and civilians.

PM Attends Regional Summit
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and a high-level Lao delegation finished up their visit to Kunming, China, to attend the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit. The PM met bilaterally with other regional leaders and supported the adoption of a joint declaration and an innovation strategy for development through 2030 at the event. Discussions at the summit centered on aligning development plans with the socio-economic needs of member countries and using innovation to strengthen competitiveness.
